Thameslink is a fifty-station route in the British railway system running 225 km (140 mi) north to south from Bedford to Brighton through the Snow Hill tunnel in Central London.
I thought Thameslink was re-branded to FCC?
Upon the privatisation of British Rail the operation of Thameslink services was franchised to a subsidiary of Govia, the train operating company Thameslink. From 1 April 2006 it was taken over by First Capital Connect along with other services previously operated by WAGN. The branding of most trains, stations, and signs has been changed to match the name of the new company, but City Thameslink and West Hampstead Thameslink stations keep the word Thameslink in their names as it refers to the route itself. After criticism of the loss of the apt name for this group of routes, First Capital Connect’s publicity now calls this set of services as its “Thameslink route” to distinguish it from the former WAGN services which the company also operates.

They cannot rename “City Thameslink” to just ‘City’ as it needs to be different from other similar names, like “White City” tube station on the Central line. Same goes for “West Hampstead Thameslink”, there is already a “West Hampstead” tube station on the Jubilee line but as it’s not a direct interchange (it’s a short (within 5 minutes) walk again) they have to call the stations by different names.
It would sound pretty stupid to call the stations “City First Capital Connect”/”City Capital Connect”/”City First Capital” now wouldn’t it…
A lot of the time City Thameslink station is closed so it doesn’t matter what it’s called.
FCC Fiddling stats in their favour and leave Passengers out in the cold!
Earlier today FCC decided to run trains non-stopping through Flitwick, Harlington and Leagrave because of an “earlier operating incident”.
The true reason why FCC decided to cut out booked station stops was to avoid then paying fines for late running and to massage their performance figures.
The way FCC managed the situation was very clever to their utmost advantage: (1) Not paying out compensation to passengers for delays (2) Massaging “on-time” stats (3) up yours to passengers.
email moir.lockhead@firstgroup about poor service!
PS
The compensation of £1m to be paid to Thameslink passengers is chicken feed compared to the groups profits. The Government now should implement the break clause in the franchise agreement to get rid of FCC.
Well Kings Cross Thameslink as well until they stopped at St. Pancras Int and they closed that station down.
