First Capital Connect performace dives in Dec-Jan with 14 percent of trains cancelled

It won’t come as much of a surprise – but only 73.7% of planned thameslink train services were less than 5 minutes late at their final destination between 12 December – 8 January. This is even worse than last period when only 79.3% of trains were ‘on time’. This is also the worst performance in the last 12 months. Figures can be downloaded here.

FCC invest in a new de-icer...

When combined with the Great Northern route, First Capital Connect managed to get 73.0% of trains to their destination less than 5 minutes late. This suggest the Great Northern Route performed slightly worse than the Thameslink route in this period. Furthermore a whopping 14.1% of trains were cancelled across the entire network.

This month, FCC had the following excuses for their terrible performance:

Adverse weather conditions
Overhead line damage near St Neots
Overhead line damage near Huntingdon
Person hit by a train at Mill Hill Broadway

It was pretty clear that FCC were not prepared for the cold weather (wasn’t it cold this time last year too?) although on their website they claim that staff have been trained in the use of a new de-icer to reduce the risk of doors freezing;

We are also working hard to prepare our fleet for the winter. All work to increase the resilience of the traction motors against snow ingress has been completed. We have also sourced a new de-icing fluid which, unlike the one used last year, is effective at temperatures down to minus 25 degrees Centigrade. This has been delivered to train depots and strategic stations on our routes to reduce the risk of doors freezing in severe weather. Staff have been trained in its use.

Good job guys…good job (see pic).

http://www.stuckwithfcc.co.uk/live-fcc-statistics/?date1=12-12-2010&date2=08-01-2011&time=all&route=both&go=Go!
At Kings Cross-St Pancras: – 9.0% cancelled – 11.3% five minutes or
less late – 9.7% five minutes or more late – 70.0% on time The most
shocking statistic, though, is that trains passing through Kings
Cross-St Pancras during the 27-day reporting period were a total of
28,685 minutes – or 19.92 days – late. – Nearly 20 day’s worth of
delays

I’ve had just about enough of the crap service from FCC with many trains being at least 5 minutes late and quite a few cancelled outright.
Often this is at the very last minute so no other arrangements can be made.
Pair this with the 12% hike in 1 month travel card prices for my Enfield-Hertford North route, I just don’t know what to do!

Having writtent to my MP they told me they will not pay any additional compensation & I should be happy with £3 if my train is 59 minutes kate. They have to put their prices up by law (obviously they wouldn’t do otherwise!), this is because they are (a) heavily subsidised by the Government, and (b) have to pay the Government for the franchise.

All rubbish as usual. Especially as (a) and (b) are opposites, either they pay the Government for the route or the Government subsidises them.

The truth is that they don’t care at all, want to maximise profitability and don’t want to invest 1p more than they have to.

Thanks for the updates statistics. It would be interesting to know how many of their trains actually left “on time”. 5 minutes is fine, but if I arrive 5 minutes late, then the train has theoretically gone. They provide a timetable because that is what they think they are able to run.

Just got my second batch of refunds for the year. And the refund amount has gone DOWN. This is for the same route, same (season) ticket.

Previously it was £3 for delay of 30 mins, and £6 for > 60. Now it is a mere £2.57 and £5.13. Why? As “compensation is calculated against the proportional daily cost of your ticket”.

So when I have been delayed for > 1 hour (twice in last 2 weeks) I get refund of LESS than minimum wage… Nice profit if you can make it…

ANDY, ALL RAILWAY OPERATORS ARE FORCED TO PAY THE GOVERNMENT FRANCHISE FEES!!! THE GOV MAY SUBSIDISE, BUT RAIL COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO PAY THE GOVERNMENT FEES NO MATTER WHAT!

THEY ALSO HAVE TO PAY NR ACCESS CHARGES, HAVE TO PAY FOR DIESEL, THE ELECTRICITY USED ON THE LINE, PAY NR FOR THE RENTAL OF THE STATIONS THEY OWN, THEY PAY FOR THE HIRE OF THE TRAINS AS THESE JUST HAVE THE LIVERY PAINTED ON THEM OF THE OPERATOR – TO INFORM THE PASSENGER WHOS SERVICE THEY ARE USING – TRAINS ARE NOT OWNED BY COMPANIES!

EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE PAID FOR!!!

SO HOW IGNORANT OF YOUR RANT! DONT CARE AT ALL AND ALL THAT SHITE!

I SUGGEST YOU SORT YOUR FACTS.
